2024 Class Bylaws Update

To increase support to class members in the area of measurement, the Tartan Ten board has approved a bylaw change restructuring the Class Measurement Rules Committee (CMRC) and the role of the Chief Measurer.  The key focus of this change will be as follows:

  • Distributing workload over a larger team.

  • Assigning the previous Chief Measurer tasks and responsibilities to the new CRMC Committee Chair which is assigned to Immediate Past President.

  • Include Regional Measurers in the CRMC Committee as voting members toward CRMC topics.

  • Expand Measurement support in each region by finding and identifying 2 to 4 local measurers per region to support local measurement, boat review toward rule compliance and help close out on CRMC top level topics.

2024 Chicago T-10 Winter Talk #1

The Chicago T10 Fleet in coordination with the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club held our first winter seminar yesterday. We presented on a cold day to about 25 in person attendees and another 25-30 on Zoom.

Fleet Captain Blane Boynton presented AIS for Racing Sailors, which is an overview of AIS, advice for how to equip your vessel and some thoughts on its strategic value while distance racing. You can find that presentation HERE.

We were then joined by a weather forecaster from NWS in Romeoville for talk about the weather. Zachary did a nice job overviewing the typical weather that we encounter during summer and fall racing.

Thank you to all those that attended whether in person or remotely. Also thanks to Steven Fink and Aimee Smith for their long term organization and conduct of these winter seminars.

Please join us for the next session on Feb 17th which will be about the Racing Rules of Sailing. Its an Olympic (Rule Change) year and Chief Judge Ted Jones from the 36.7 PainKiller V will join us!
