Class Vote on Jib Rule Changes Withdrawn
The vote on the proposed jib rule changes regarding headfoil jibs and positive roach has been canceled by the Class Board. Several issues were raised by members about the potential impact of the change and the Board has asked the CMRC to address these issues. Once the CMRC has responded, the rule changes may or may not be submitted for approval by vote.
Class Vote on Jib Rule Changes
A change has been proposed for the T-10 class rules. The rule change has been reviewed by the CMRC and they have recommended approval. The proposed rule change will be distributed to all voting members of the class.
The proposed rule change would modify the measurement requirements for jibs with headfoils and eliminate the prohibition against jibs with positive roach. The reasoning behind the proposed rule change is as follows:
a) It is physically impossible to build a jib with a headfoil that complies with the jib rule as currently written due to the headfoil width requirements (see photos). This has not come up previously because no one was using a jib with a headfoil. One member started racing PHRF and would like to use a jib with a headfoil.
b) Measuring a jib to ensure that there is no positive roach is estimated to double the amount of time it takes to measure a single jib. The current rule has mid-girth measurements that virtually eliminate the possibility of and any significant advantage from a jib with positive roach.
CMRC Response to Adjustable Jib Car Proposal
The CMRC has rejected the proposed rule change that would allow for adjustable jib cars. The CMRC has been unable to identify a solution that would work on the LS-10.
