CLEVELAND RACE WEEK DAY 1 OVERVIEW

Cleveland Race Week Update from Suzie Florence Zach...

20 T10s were on the line for the start of the Lake Erie Championship at Cleveland Race Week. Breeze was predicted to be big but settled down to a shifty 8-14 out of the west with 4 ft choppy seas. Team I-Ball is leading the fleet with 7 points after 3 races. Nuts in 2nd with 10 points and Proper Villain in 3rd with 11 points. The rest of the fleet is nipping at their heels. Looking forward to 2 more days of competitive racing.

Editor's note: it looks like Hooligan: Team Flat Stanley Racing managed bullets in race 1 and 3, coupled with an OCS for race 2 that has them looking up at the leaders. It will be fun to see if Trey Sheehan and his team can battle back to the top of the standings!

Editor’s Note 2: Hooligan was granted redress and is now in 1st place at the end of day 1!

BRIAN KACZOR AND ERICA TAKE 2019 CHICAGO NOOD REGATTA

Fog cancelled out racing on Friday and Sunday, but in the four races on Saturday Brian Kaczor and his team on Erica were clearly top dogs in the 20-boat T-10 section. Erica scored 2nd, 1st, 1st and 2nd for 6 points. Amy & Rick Cermak and their Racine-based boat took 2nd with 13 point, edging out Chicago T-10 Fleet Captain Mark Croll in 3rd with 15 points. Well done by all the racers in some tough conditions!

Sailing World Article on 2019 Chicago NOOD Regatta

Brian Kaczor captured the 23-boat Tartan 10 fleet in his boat, Erica. Kaczor has been racing his boat since 2005, but claims his current crew is the best he’s ever had. “Everyone put a ton of work into the boat over the winter, which really made the difference this weekend,” Kaczor says.

Kaczor added that a mix of good tactics, boatspeed, and crewwork made all the difference yesterday. “It was pretty tough because the wind and the waves didn’t match up,” says Kaczor. “We were quick to adjust our sail trim and put the boat where we needed on the racecourse. The race committee did a great job keeping things fair, so hat’s off to them working us through the tough conditions.”
