2017 T-10 NAC Day 4 Summary

The regatta's final two races were held under a dark cloud...literally, not figuratively. The trick was finding which side had more pressure. Race 6 saw 6 knots from the SSE. TAZ was banking on the left side (and looking good) until the right side came in at the top of the first weather leg. Finishing 9th, TAZ lost their 2 point lead over PROPER VILLIAN.

Heading into Race 7, the VILLIAN had a one point advantage over TAZ. The wind was a little stronger, about 8 knots and SE. TAZ stayed left(ish) again. This time it paid off with their first bullet of the championship. PROPER VILLIAN won the day with a 1 - 4; but Hanson Bratton and the TAZ crew take the big trophy to Bayview.

Kudos to CCYC, Brian Kennalley and the MEAT crew for a terrific regatta. Great food, good drinks, smiling volunteers and comfortable docks...2020?

Special THANKS to Susan Backus Starr (T-10 Reporter) for great reporting after racing all day!!

2017 T-10 NAC Day 3 Summary

by Susan Backus Starr

What a difference a day makes! Race 3 was postponed for an hour waiting for the breeze (any breeze) to fill in. Southeast wind, very light, shifty and frequently painful. Too many position changes to track (plus I was down below for much of the the upwind legs). A big left shift on the second weather leg shuffled the leaders. PERFECT edged out TAZ for their second bullet.

With the 20 degree left shift settled in, the breeze increased to 7 - 8 knots for race 4. An I flag following the general recall kept the fleet in check. TAZ was first runner-up again with PROPER VILLAIN taking the gun.

The breeze held for race 5. However, the wind was not strong enough to overpower the music and beat from Lollapalooza in Grant Park. CONVERGENCE recovered from their OCS in race 4 to match PERFECT with 2 bullets.

While the fleet was on the water, CCYC was smoking Texas-worthy barbecue. Add a Chicago blues band and the party was complete!
