Class Vote on Jib Rule Changes
A change has been proposed for the T-10 class rules. The rule change has been reviewed by the CMRC and they have recommended approval. The proposed rule change will be distributed to all voting members of the class.
The proposed rule change would modify the measurement requirements for jibs with headfoils and eliminate the prohibition against jibs with positive roach. The reasoning behind the proposed rule change is as follows:
a) It is physically impossible to build a jib with a headfoil that complies with the jib rule as currently written due to the headfoil width requirements (see photos). This has not come up previously because no one was using a jib with a headfoil. One member started racing PHRF and would like to use a jib with a headfoil.
b) Measuring a jib to ensure that there is no positive roach is estimated to double the amount of time it takes to measure a single jib. The current rule has mid-girth measurements that virtually eliminate the possibility of and any significant advantage from a jib with positive roach.
